History time:
Melaka Zoo was built by Melaka State Government in 1963 meant as a recreational area to the locals. In 1979, the Department of Wildlife and National Parks, Peninsular Malaysia (PERHILITAN) took over the zoo's administration for a better and systematic development. Under this new management, the function of the zoo has been added to encompass the aspects of conservation/breeding as well as recreation/tourism.
Upon completion of refurbishment, the zoo was officated by the then PM Tun Dr. Mahathir on 13 August 1987. Since then, it has progressively become the second largest zoo in Malaysia at 54 acres with over 1500 animals and including 200 animals from within and outside of the country.
Starting on June 2004, the zoo introduced a new concept of Night Zoo to the visitors. This allow the visitors to visit the zoo at night to observe namely the nocturnal animals which are active at night. The Night Zoo was launched by the CM of Melaka, Datuk Seri Mohd. Ali bin Rustam.
The entrance fees is RM 7 for adult aged 13 years and above while for children, it is priced at RM 4. Visitation hours is from 9 am to 6 pm daily including public holidays.
For the Night Zoo, it is priced at RM 10 for adults and RM 5 for children. The visitation time is from 8 pm to 11 pm on every Fridays, Saturdays and eve of public and school holidays. It is claimed that there are over 500 nocturnal animals to be viewed.
Before we venture deeper, let's recall the general rules in the zoo. You are prohibited to disturb and feed the animals as well as littering.

OMG Elephant ride! I had never try before. I only ride horse before. Sadly to our disappointment, it was cloased that day. We were extremely sad.
Elephant/Horse Ride
Open on: Saturday, Sunday and public holidays
Time: 10 am to 12 pm, 2 pm to 5 pm
Fees: RM 2 for children, Rm 3 for adult, RM 4 for adult and children
Remember if you are to visit here, higly recommendable to try ride on the elephant.
Deers oh dears..
It is a territorial and gregarious animal. Lifespan is up to 20 years. They migrate in large numbers up to thousands in search of grazing pastures along well travelled routes.
Nice environment for the tiger. When I see them , the only thought is they are very lucky. Those animals living in Zoo Negara at Ulu Kelang really suffer from dirtiness.
This is the entrance to the bird parks. We did not enter as this zoo is really huge and we went only 50% of the place.
Me and this bear has no association.
Oh this is sad. Look clearly to this pic. There is actually 2 elephants on this pic and another one on the right which was not captured. Initially, it looks pretty fun to see this elephant shaking their bodies. However, in deep observation, they were actually practising for the show.
We stared at this elephant quite long. It seem to be recalling the steps and then practise every foot movement. To the front, side and back as well as folding its trunk non stop.
Next, we proceeded to the animal show.
Intially, it was the birds show. Later on, the speakperson walked from the stage to the place where the audiences sat and surprised everyone when he told that there was a snake hidden somewhere around the audiences' seats. (Bottom left)
Middle right: Wan Nah was so brave to stand near the snake.
Then, came another shock that there was another snake went missing. The audiences was scared till they run away.
Next, we have the Orang utan show. I guess all these shows are similar to any other zoo as well. The speakperson chose one audience to participate in a telematch with the orang utan. This gentleman was so brave and shocked me. It was the first time I saw the chosen audience use his mouth to peel the coconut. It was a very fast one but still the Orang utan was the champion~ Bravo to the man and the Orang utan as well.
Next, was the magic show by the Orang Utan. It was asked to make the ping pong ball to disappear. It actually hide the ball inside its mouth.
The audiences can take photos with the Orang utan with a ticket priced at RM 15 (if not mistaken).
