Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar told The Star Raja Petra was detained under Section 73 (1) of the ISA as he was deemed a threat to security, peace and public order. He said that under Section 73 (1) Raja Petra would be detained for 60 days.
“The police will do an assessment during this period and if they feel he should be held more than 60 days, the police will then refer to me,” he said. First 60 days
A person detained under the ISA during the first 60 days is held incommunicado, with no access to the outside world. Furthermore, lawyers and family members are not allowed access to the detainee during this initial period. If a two-year detention order is signed, the detainee is taken to the Kamunting Detention Centre to serve his or her two-year term, during which family members are allowed to visit. Otherwise, the detainee may be released.
Release Although the government may release detainees unconditionally, in some cases, it has required those being released to make a public "confession" on television and radio. Detainees Lists are of known current and former detainees under the Internal Security Act. Current 2008 - Raja Petra Kamaruddin on 12th September 2008. 2001 - Yazid Sufaat, terrorist. The Government has found their strong 'reasons' to detain RPK. However, what is the main reason for the detaination? According to RPk website, RPK wife Marina Lee abdullah has said that he is detained for inciting hates in articles on Islam. Then, why the police took away him with 15 CDs on ceramahs held by Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from his house?
If he is detained under ISA for causing threat to security, peace and public order, then WHY AHMAD ISMAIL is not treated the same way? I would suggest the Government to take the same action against Ahmad as his racist remarks has caused stir in the relationship between the Malays and the Chinese. Go get him!!! 3 years internal suspension for racist remarks and ISA for articles believed to incite hate in Islam??
Between, will PRK be detained for less than 60 days or for 2 years?? The current political scenario in Malaysia has come to the worst stage where racist issues and ISA is used for political agenda.
Do you think Malaysia still labeled as a safe country? From now onwards, we should be cautious on the words we used as a simply mistake will bring you into the jail. Beware!!!
