Blood donation

Today, I have my third time of blood donation. I almost forgot my appointment with MF as I was busy with my homeworks since I was awake from my sleep. So, we met up and went to uni to donate blood. This is my first time donating blood at UCSI Uni as attempts in the previous 2 years was unsuccessful. It is either the date is Lets have a look to the criteria of blood donation as set by the Pusat Darah Negara which are as follow:
a) Age: 18-60 y.o (written consent from parents/guardians for donor below 18 y.o.) b) Gender: Male and female c) Weight: Minimum 45 kg d) General appearance: Good health e) Medical history: No history of recent illness or history of any medication f)) Minimum 5 hours of sleep g) Haemoglobin level must be more than 12.5g/dl h) The interval between last donation of whole blood not less than 8 weeks i) Frequency: Whole blood donation - minimum 8 weeks provided haemoglobin level >12.5 g/dl
Kim Hua from the School of Nursing who is the organizer for the event greeted me and disallowed me to proceed further as I do not pass the requirement (d). Haha.. It is predicted as I do not take my breakfast (forgot the appointment) and I was statically seated facing the computer to do my homeworks. Hence, I looked pale and energyless. So, I went to have my breakfast who later joined by Vun who happened to be at uni. After filling up the registration form, I then proceed to the blood grouping test. FYI, it is a compulsory for all blood donors to undergo this test despite you already know your blood group during your previous blood donation session. Next is the measurement of your blood pressure by a doctor. The doctor will also verify the information you have written on the registration form and will also ensure that all donors are in healthy status to donate blood. One of the questions in the form which was to be explained and to be verified by the doctor is as follows:
Are you engaged in the following? a) Intravenous drug users b) Persons who have had multiple sex partners c) Prostitutes d) Persons who have had sex with prostitutes e) homosexuals and bisexuals f) sex partners of all above
The MAIN benefit of donating your blood is to SAVE LIFE. The news reported that the country has run out of blood which is vital during emergency cases. Next is to have your blood screened for the following:
a) HIV infection b) Hepatitis C c) Hepatitis B d) Syphilis Some people would say that donating blood can 'clean up your blood'. This is very true as your body will regenerate a brand new blood supply.

Chap Goh Meh Celebration

It was the end of CNY. As usual, a big dinner to celebrate the 'big day' is a must and it was another round of reunion dinner as for my family. Mum took approximately 70-80 minutes to prepare the dinner. Before the dinner, we had the first round of tossing yee sang. It was a vegetarian yee sang with yau char kwai! And my wish of able to taste in the next CNY was fulfilled. (check my previous post) It was a homemade yee sang brought back by my brother in law.
Can you spot the crunchy fried yau char kwai?
As for me, the taste was good as the crunchy yau char kwai do make a good combination besides the usual biscuit. However, I personally felt that the vege yee sang with Corn Flakes do make a better one. Haha..
After that, about 9.40 pm, we had our 'ying siu jit' dinner.
Next, I had a busy time with my mum to select the Australia's trip photos to be developed. Due to high number of photos, we only managed to finish by 1.20 am. I was using my 2nd sis high tech laptop for the selection as well as for my study on that day. The laptop enabled me to surf online while watching Astro. In another way, it do help to protect my eyes of close distance/proximity while do the same thing but in my sister room. I guessed everyone knew about the full moon phenomenon on that day. I will make a post on it later. We enjoyed the time of moon sightseeing together. Do we gamble for the last round? Initially, my 3rd sis do but I did not joined her as I had something to do. After the dinner, none of us were playing as it was too late and they complained of working early in the next day. As for info, my family do play mahjong or 'rami' throughout the CNY with exception of me who was around in the house. At about 11.30 pm, we had another round of tossing yee sang. This time it was not a vegetarian but the usual one with fish. Although it tasted good, we were just too full to fill in further food into our stomach. So, for this year, I had managed to toss yee sang for 6 times. (the lowest record)
The last thing I did before getting on bed was to count the angpows money. It was understood that economic slowdown will somehow affected the 'revenue' in this year. However, I was surprised that the amount contained in the angpows was at average RM5 or RM 10. The final amount exceeded the previous year. Was I dreaming? It seemed to be a real ox-spicious year for me. However, the final amount was not a big amount like any others who easily get hundreds or thousand every year. Well, i am a poor fella. Sob. How about you angpows' money this year?

APAC Communications

How I spent my previous holidays break? As you all know, I was having wonderful time with various outing to the shopping mall, re-branding of my blog and outings with friends. However, I do work as well. Not a month or a week but just only TWO days. Initially, I was planning to work for at least a month in order to get some money to change my current hp. However, the boss, Joan do not have vacancy for that period and only required me to work for 2 weeks. Unfortunately, the 2nd week was my uni re-open week. So, left only 1 week. Just days before to get ready for work, Joan called in and asked me and small Joanne to work only for 2 days from Wednesday to Thursday. We can't work for Friday as we were engaged with the Christmas and New Year party at uni.
Me and small Joanne Ever wonder worked for 1 day and the next day, you started saying 'oh, it is my final day of working'
Ken, Wen Han, Me Wen Han was a new friend for us. We actually worked here previously. Wen Han, Joanne and Ken Me, big Joan aka the BOSS and small joanne big boss and her work station Me and boss These were the work stations for the telemarketing officer to make calls to the clients. And here come my work station with my Adidas beg and Be ready pencil box. Water dispenser for all Left for the male and right for the female
What we do? This is a telemarketing job. However, it is not related to sales. It wasn't new for me as I worked for such similar job in Mid Valley. We make calls to the clients (long lists) and invite them to come for a function organised by the company's client. What requirements do I need? Basically, no requirements are there for this job. What you need is the ability to speak fluently in the phone and relay the message/invitation to the selected clients. The language used is English although Bahasa Melayu and Chinese language may be needed at times. You do not even need to persuade the clients to attend the functions. You only required to make your calls profesionally and enquire whether the clients will attend the functions or not. Simple? Is there any work pressure? Well, anywhere you work, there is pressure/commands/instructions whatsoever from your superior. Once you are in the working environment, you should understand the phrase 'If your boss say your are wrong, it means you are wrong. If the boss is wrong, it is still your wrong.' (i actually forgot the exact phrase i learnt last time..haha) However, I would say the pressure in the working environment, if I were given a scale from 1 -10 with the higner number inidcates the most, in this company is 1. So, any worry? What's the payment? RM 55/day for 8 hours excluding 1 hour lunch time, 9-6 pm Do you wish to find a part time job during your uni breaks? Vegetarian Yee Sang with Corn Flakes

Yee sang is no doubt my favourite during the Chinese New Year. Back in a year ago, I used to toss yee sang very frequent from days before CNY till Chap Goh Mei for about 7-8 times. However, this year I do not had the chance to do so as I was away for oversea holiday and only managed to toss yee sang 3 times till now.
On the first day of CNY, me, my mum and 2nd sis went to bai nian at the unofficial brother in law house. He was the one who sent me and my mum to the aiport to catch for a flight in the afternoon. His mother has the practice of eating vegetarian on the first day of new year. So, she cooked a few yummy vege dishes including the char siew, curry and vegetables. But, before that, she said we should toss yee sang which was homemade by her. The yee sang looked alike the one sold outside. Appearance wise A+. Then, the auntie said she forgot to buy yau char kwai to replace the crispy biscuit. Then only I knew that yau char kwai is used in the vege yee sang, a new discovery for me. So, instead of that, she used the Corn Flakes to replace the yau char kwai. I was stunt when I saw her pouring out the Corn Flakes. Am I goin to eat this? I talked to myself in my mind hoping she will pour the Corn Flakes less. This gotta be kidding. So, we started to toss yee sang higher and higher hoping the luck will come to our side this year, hopefully. Then, we started to eat it. And when I tasted my first mouthful of the yee sang, my reaction was wow..it was very tasty. I never thought yee sang can be in a good combination with Corn Flakes. We even put more Corn Flakes later on.
Homemade vegetarian yee sang with Corn Flakes
Wow.. it was so tasty... You guys should have try it~
My 2010 CNY's wish: I hope to taste vegetarian yee sang with yau char kwai. Between, the char siew and curry was unbearable to stop eating. It was yummy and looked like the real one.

See Bee birthday celebration

It was an early celebration on 17 January 2009, Saturday. After the shopping session in 1U, we headed to CB house at about 530 pm. Then, we waited for quite some time before we started the eating.
The foods for the day
Bottom left: wasabi.. not meant for eating but got another purpose...you will know as you continue reading..
Top: Me, JY & Tomas were in charged of setting up the fire. This job worsen my cough and eventually lost my voice. (earlier in 1U, sign of lost of voice was already detected)
Top: The guys bbq'ing foods for the dear ladies Bottom right: Although they hold the bbq stick, it does not mean they did the job. Don't be cheated.
After some eating and chatting, the two kids demanded us to join them for a badminton match. Since they lack of additional racquet, MF was forced to play 1 against 2.
After that, we continued eating. Do you see the centre sushi? And do you see the chilis and the garlic? The next thing was game session proposed by Alvin. Each of us was to hold a play card and we cant see it. Then, we have to read out any digit from 1 to 10 and J to K. If we read out the number as on the card we were holding, then it was considered lost. To make the game more interesting and fun and at the same time finished up the sushi, before each person speak out a digit, he/she will 'decorate' the sushi with initially wasabi. Then, later we found out chilis and garlic also wasn't bad. All of us lost at minimum once while the champion were between Xiao You and Tomas. I had lost too but was given the chance to eat a normal sushi with mayonaisse. (hey, i had no voice dat time and need to use finger to say out the number) The final battle round was won by Xiao You and finally Tomas tasted the wasabi and gralic.
The kids Red wine session..cheers!~ Caking cutting session Before that, lets sing a birthday song to the 'aged' girl. Having fun and joy singing in different versions of birthday songs The rows of girls Cb with the guys And I had no idea what we were doing at this time... hmmm? Look at the direction we were facing/pointing. Did you see it clearly? All guys without specs... macho? CB cutting her birthday cake Left: Xiao You, my model for the red wine. haha Right: Cheers~
At sharp 12 am or 0000 of 18 Jan 2009, we sang another birthday song to CB. This was done without her knowledge to give her a surprise.
Touched by us Gifts opening Top: Tired..tired..
And my condition worsen since then. You should remember I went through sickness for 2 weeks. That was just the first week. Sob sob.
