Mr Nicholas Lee, Director of Collegiate Ambassador for Peace pay a visit to UCSI University

Arggg ... i need to curse some one when i read his notes... Every single word come out from his mouth or the tiny small wording on the whiteboard cannot be trusted. I took some time to search thru internet to verify the information. To my surprise, not even 50 % of the infos given can be found in internet and most info are not accurate.

Well, that is the introduction to my study week. Today, I went to the proudly newly granted University to handle the proposal for the proposed Pharmacy Night aka Prom Night to be held next year. While walking towards to Block C, I can see many banners hanged at the car park area bearing ' We are now UCSI University'. Yea.. we are so proud with the increment in the fees~~

Forgot to mention, my slogan as alwiz 'free & easy' ™ (learnt form Guru Pitka). I wear a collar t-shirt and a short pant. Yea.. you are right..so yeng~ I am not worry as I am not dealing long in the SOP as Mr Jony was on leave. I only need to handle something with Ms Kitty. Alright, the intial stage was clear. While talking halfway with her, a heard a strong famillar voice, it was Prof. Noran. I quickly step out from the office and stood beside some seniors. Haha.. I shocked them caused they have no idea what I was doing. Great, my action just in time that she didn't get to see me even though she walked out from the SOP. So, I continued talking with Ms Kitty on some related 'interesting' issues. I kept looking outside in order for me to escape for which Prof. Noran will return back any time. This time I do not have enough time to walked out from SOP. Instead, I sat on the chair and quickly grab a nearby bag and put in front of my leg to cover my sexy legs. Haha... as mentioned by Dr. Chin who spotted me initially. He is very cooperative.

Besides that, I get to know that there is a deepavali celebration function at MPH and some lecturers including the one whose Alvin was looking for was not in. My time management is proven quite good this round. After dealing with Ms Kitty, it was about to reach 3 pm, the meeting time with Mr. Nicholas Lee, the Director of Collegiate Ambassador of Peace.

We do not know what is the purpose of the meeting as Phang only said he wanted to meet us. So, since I need to go school for the earlier business, I attended the meeting. Mr. Nicholas was asking us the experiences in the recent GPF celebration. I answered him that the Sunday event was sort of entertainment and we have no interaction with others as we sat according to our group. The more meaningful event to me was the Service for Peace at Kampung Kerinchi which I really work very hard for it. Besides, I get to know new friends locally as well as internationally.

Mr. Nicholas was explaining on the upcoming service project in Sabah which we may stay there for a week. It is a service for the refugees especially from Philippines which the children do not receive the basic education and start selling cigarettes or unhealthy products for surviving not living. They have no homes as the name explained 'REFUGEE" which the presence in the country is illegal and not recognised. I found this project meaningful and quite interesting. Besides having the donation run throughout the country via Power of 10 cents, whats more important to them is the knowledge (as Nicholas said), but to me is a simple education that can make them slowly craw out form their poverty and become useful in the society (KF said).

My exam will be till the end of November and the service project will be in December. If nothing goes wrong. I would be looking forward for this project. Hope should there is any workshop, it wont fall into my exam periods. Another issue is that even Mr Nicholas himself do not know more about the projects as in what the participants should do, how to register, whats the payment and etc. He and some others are drafting the project and will be giving feedback to us soon.

Besides that, he was mentioning on how we can carry our own service project in our own Uni. Well, our UCSIPSS has a good track records in doing such projects like the Public Health Campaign and the PDK Selayang fundraising & visitation. Alvin took the opportunity to explain our upcoming service projects thru UCSIPSS which there is possibly a collaboration with the GPF to further supports to our projects financially as well as materials needed.

Mr. Nicholas also showed us few video presentations of the recent GPF and asked us to see whether we are in it or not. I have searched the website and the blogspot and there is actually none. To our shock, the developed A5 photos that he brought along has our photos. One of them was showing the 4 VIPs photo including Mr Nicholas, Tan Sri Datin Paduka Seri Hjh Zaleha Ismail and 2 others while we (me, alvin , MF) were sitting just 3 row behind. Yea.. I did mentioned in my previous posts that we were seating at VIPs side.

Mr Nicholas was so nice to offer us the photo, but we rejected as we have all those photos posted in the website and blogspot and even MORE than that. What we want is actually our silly face behind them..hahahaha... Now, the next would be the sort of main reason i post this. He said he will add us in Facebook and we can dl from there. Aiks.. Aiks.. Facebook again.. I think i'm the only person who do not have facebook yet depsite continuous invitation thru email. Well, I lazy to maintain 2 site as I alrdy have Friendster (which many say no longer active). Hmm.. I alrdy very seldom update my Friendster, takkan want me sign for Facebook and left it aside. To me as for now, blogspot is my highest priority and blogging as for now has become part of my life. Hahaha.. I think I need to register a facebook ASAP...

Hey, it is now study break! But, I just cant resist myself to click to my blogspot and to check the latest happenings thru other blog as well. Yesterday, I bumped into Mr Mazlan blog, it was indeed a shock discovery as you really cant imaging whether a person next to you or your friend do blog or not. I updated a lot of news of my Setapak High school through him, TQ very much and shame to me as being the junior and not knowing the latest info about my own secondary school.

Thats all for now. Have to continue the more important thing. Hey, one more, Razak Baginda was acquitted today...hot news in the morning and the petrol price to be decreased from tomorrow, Saturday to RM 2.15..yay.. but i alrdy pumped rm 30 this week.. AIKS~~~~~~~

UCSI University, new name, new status, new FEES payment

UCSI has officially granted full university status becoming UCSI University.. This university may be the only university in the country that has a weird name.. Instead of International Sedaya University College, it become University College Sedaya International. And now more weird it has become University College Sedaya International University. Wow.. bravo to those people giving this name. Why not just International Sedaya University or University of Sedaya International?

I think they put the logo and university word last Thursday when i back Uni to check non Rx results. Check the UCSI University website. The name of previous UCSI has been changed when I viewed it last Tuesday (this week).

Adapted from the Star. Rating system to be extended KUALA LUMPUR: The Rating System for Malaysian Higher Education Institutions (Setara) will be extended to private higher education institutions by next year.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said this would provide an overview of where public and private universities rank in the national education system. “This will provide the baseline data from which these institutions will seek to improve and ensure the continuous drive towards excellence is achieved in our national higher education framework,” he said at a ceremony to unveil UCSI University, formerly known as University College Sedaya International, last night.

Mohamed Khaled said the first step towards achieving a competitive drive in the higher education system was to enable universities, both private and public, to be reviewed and evaluated as equal counterparts. On awarding university status to UCSI, Mohamed Khaled said this was because it had fulfilled the criteria. “These include qualified teaching staff, meeting the prescribed number of academic staff with PhD and masters’ research capabilities, good governance, availability of excellent teaching and learning facilities and good student accommodation,” he said.

“This is indeed a milestone achievement for UCSI and a well-deserved symbol of excellence after 22 years of dedication in the field of higher education,” he said. UCSI University group president and vice-chancellor Peter Ng said he was proud that the university had transformed from a computer training centre with just two computers to four campuses in four states in over 20 years. “We will soon offer hospitality and tourism courses at our Sarawak campus and petroleum and gas courses at our Terengganu campus,” he said. The eventual objective was to create niche specialisations at its branch campuses, he said, adding that it would soon offer doctorate programmes.

I heard that there will be 10 % increment on the semester fees for all courses. Yea.. for the sake of the word University on the certificate, you need to pay more.

Qualified teaching staff? Well, i think my whole class will agree to me that there is somebody not qualified in teaching profession in my course. Not good to elaborate much here.

Rating system? It is undeniable UCSI University among the top private university (not include the foreign universities branches) in the country. So, I am eager to know how well UCSI University is rated.

Global Peace Festival 2008 Day 2 Part 1: Celebration at Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil

We started our journey to Bukit Jalil sharp at 9.30 am from Hexi Restaurant after our breakfast. It was not a smooth journey as there was jam at Bandar Tasik Selatan giving us an early prediction that many were going to the same destination and the car park may full

L- Our assumption was wrong when we saw this lorry turn upside down... can go buy TOTO...haha

R- Christine and her mei mei, didn't ask her name.. so, just called her mei mei

We managed to reach in time despite an early confusion on the exact location of the stadium. Well, I forgot which entrance to the Putra Stadium and instead we went wrong to Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil...

L- We went into the stadium and saw Jaclyn Victor was practising her singing for the later show..The stadium at that time was empty

R- Christine and a Thai delegate, thanx MF for calling him upon request from Christine

Well, there should be a rehearsal for a parade for later event. That was why all the volunteers were required to gather before 10 am. However, the event was cancelled without proper acknowledgement to all and not many GPF officers knew about it. There was no counter or any GPF officers stationed at the entrance to answer our queries. This was really very disorganized! Thus, the GPF officers that I contacted asked us to 'lepak' or hang around the place until 1 am. OMG! Hang around for 3 HOURS?? So, we left with no choice to mingle around the booths set up outside the Putra Stadium under the VERY HOT sun.

Our first stop was at the small stage outside the stadium. There was an on going Silambam performances from mostly kids and few adults.

L- Look at the stick carried by the young kid. I predicted that elder kids used the wooden stick while the younger one used this petrol pumper alike stick. It was so cute~

L- Then, I met with Edward hanging around too.

R- MF was taking photographs for Christine and her sis. Well, salute to him~ He was holding the umbrella using his neck to press on his shoulder, the left hand carrying two paper bags containing the women diapers, Kotex (one is free gift i think) and a cap hanged on his jean. He was the idol of perfect NN (can't elaborate much here...haha)

Next, Wan Nah and Leon played this musical dance which was O2Jam alike. Of coz they played for something which was to win a goodies bag from Ribena. To qualify for contesting, you need to purchase any Ribena' items sold in the front counter.

Our next stop was to take picture from this Thai delegates with their own costumes.

The bystanders also wanted to join us.

Beside the Thai girls, we also took pictures with the Thai guys. L- My left was the gentlemen from Yemen while my right was from Turkey

L- This little kid was initially playing inside the playing ground set up using the hot air. Out of sudden, the playing ground collapsed and she started to cry. Her mother then brought her far away from the scene. Our effective cameramen managed to take the kid's photo.

Erm.. i forgot the red shirt kid was from where.. I just remembered his sweats from his ears sweat my ear too while taking the photo. It was large amount.. guess he was playing non stop for a very long period of time.

MF was doing a jumping shot while Alvin who took his photo kept laughing after seeing the snapped photo. Thanx Rajes for his brilliant move to capture Alvin photo as well.

Ice branded or blended? Even if it is ice blended, it was not! We bought the wheat grass ice blended which was just iced wheat grass and the taste was aweful. I never tasted such weird wheat grass drink be4. Even if you give me money, I swear I will never try it again! The A&W Drinking Competition

Aiks.. if MF joined this competition, he would have win it! There were 3 rounds of matches. The winner of each matches will then compete in the grand final round. If not mistaken, a student from UTAR, UM and UPM respectively won the earlier matches. I forgot who won the Grand Final round. What you need to do is very simple..just drink a glass of A&W as fast as you can. What amazed me was the spirit of the game shown by their supporters. UM and UTAR supporters were shouting each others with their own 'spirit cheers'. This shall be practised by UCSI as well (i cant find such thing yet) as it can boost your confidence and spirit of togetherness!~ Besides, it also shows your groups' identity.

Hahaha..this lady was trying to sell a CD with a collection of songs. I was actually the one who approached her and asked her to take photo with us.It was really pai seh as she need to put down her 'luggages' she was carrying be4 taking the photo. Sorry for not making business and TQ for the photo.

At about 1 pm, we then entered into the stadium. The seats are based on first come first serve. Each of us was given a mini plastic fanner and a glow in the dark (GID) stick. The left picture was showing the GID stick on Alvin's camera. We were seated a row after the VIPs seat and a row behind the Hong Kong delegates. Then only I saw Pei La & Lucy whom me and Lai Teng were looking for yesterday for a picture. What a coincidence! L- There were 4-5 small TVs about 16 inches at each edge of the stage.

R- Me and Yen Ching who was on the way to her seat.

ARgggg... It was Mandarin class again but this time w/o Lai Teng. She asked me 'After days of coming Malaysia, i still cannot find what so special in Malaysia. What are the nice places and signature foods in Malaysia?' OMG..i find difficulty in answering her question. The only answer i told her was our people from different ethnicity. Regarding on place... KLCC (she nodded and said yea it was beautiful place)... foods.... HOW TO EXPLAIN?? Our foods is some sort same like in China which we consume mainly vegetables and soups. So, i told her..our food her is a mixture of Chinese, Malay and Indians as well. I want to say ROJAK..but i really dunno how to explain to her...HAHhahHahAhaHAhhaha

R- We were on the live big screen TV !! HELLO every1~~

R- A truly joy and fun can be seen from their faces.. this is what the youth should do..

While waiting for the dear VIPs, this Chinese orchestra tuned into their rhythm to entertain the audience. Due to the 'heavy jam' and various reasons, the VIPs were always late. The orchestra has to play repeated song that made me feel so sleepy.

I SMS Lai Teng to come down for a photo with Pei La and Lucy. She brought along a friend who due to limited time and spaces, we didn't introduce each other. At that time, the performance was about to start and all were seated in their place. So, to stand at the stairs and every1 looking at you was not very convenience.
